Why Sila Wela

A Thoughtful Approach to Every Timepiece

We believe a watch that has been with a family for decades deserves the same steady attention as one worn every day.

Honest Assessment First

Before any work begins, we describe what we find and what the options are. You decide what to do next — no pressure, no surprises.

Workshop Expertise

Mechanical watches are all we do. That focus means we encounter most conditions regularly and can speak to them with confidence.

Service Warranty

Routine care services include a written warranty so you can bring a watch back if timekeeping is not as expected after the service.

Unhurried Pace

Restoration work is carried out at the pace the piece requires. We would rather take the time needed than rush something that cannot be undone.

Clear, Written Plans

For restoration work, we provide a written plan before we start — describing the work, the parts needed, and the anticipated cost, so nothing is a surprise.

Respect for Originality

We discuss the owner's wishes before touching cosmetic details. If a patina tells a story you want to keep, we work around it.

Common Questions

Things People Often Ask

How do I know if my watch needs a service?

Common signs include the watch losing or gaining time noticeably, the crown feeling stiff, or the movement stopping unexpectedly. Even without obvious symptoms, periodic care helps avoid more involved repairs later. We are happy to take a look and give you an honest picture of the condition.

How long does a routine service take?

A routine care service usually takes between one and three weeks, depending on the watch and our current schedule. We will give you a realistic estimate when you bring the piece in. If timing matters to you, just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.

Do you work on all types of mechanical watches?

We work primarily on mechanical and automatic watches — pocket watches, wristwatches, and older heirloom pieces. If a watch falls outside what we can handle well, we will say so during the initial assessment rather than proceeding with work we are not confident in.

Will restoring my heirloom watch affect its value?

This is a question worth discussing carefully. Sympathetic restoration — conserving original parts and finishing where possible — generally preserves more of a piece's character than aggressive polishing or part replacement. We talk through these considerations before deciding on any approach.

What does the assessment involve, and is there a fee?

The initial assessment involves examining the movement and case to understand the watch's current condition. We will then explain what work is appropriate and what it would cost. There is no obligation to proceed after the assessment. Please contact us to discuss the fee arrangement before bringing the watch in.

Can I send my watch by post or courier?

We are happy to receive watches sent carefully packaged and fully insured. Please contact us first so we can advise on the best way to send the piece and confirm we are available to receive it. We will return it by a similar secure method once the work is complete.
